Zack and I went to the grocery store tonight. On the way home, we noticed a lady walking and holding a 2 year old little boy. Now having a 18 pound child, I told Zack, "look at that poor lady, I wonder if she needs a ride." So we pulled over and asked if she needed us to give her a ride somewhere. I looked down and neither her nor her little boy had shoes on. She was planning to walk from 82nd & Quaker to 35th & Q! Anyway, she got in the car, we started driving. She said, "thank you so much, I had a fight with my husband last night, I left, went to the bar with my friend, got drunk, then my friend ditched me and I'm not calling my husband to get me"--all while she had her 2 year old son with her. We didn't say much to that, just that we were glad to help out. I told her that her little boy was just precious, she said, "you want him? I'm never having anymore!" I was a little surprised by her seriousness...I think if I said leave him here, she might have.
She got out the car and Zack and I were just so sad. This precious little boy! I know children are neglected and mistreated often. It breaks my heart, so tonight, please pray for these precious babies.

That's crazy! I can't help but wonder what she did with the baby while she was in the bar...so sad! We always think of the babies in third world countries that suffer from neglect when we have plenty right here under our noses in the U.S. It's so sad to think of how much is either robbed or denied of these innocent lives before they ever really have a chance. :-(
Makes me thankful for everything my parents did for me---saw so much of that when I taught school--breaks your heart!
I know, I worked in a family law firm for a few years, it's horrible what some parents do. I just look at Bella and I don't understand it.
Oh my! What an experience. What a blessing you were to them and how great it was that you were able to see a need in the midst of everything! It was great seeing you yesterday.
I seriously just boohooed...it's beyond my understanding how you can't just absolutely adore your children...I have a few kids at Dunbar I wish I could adopt...
